The wine was handpicked and wholebunch fermented for 7 days prior to pressing. Maturation occurred on full lees for 6 months prior to bottling. No additions (including no sulphur dioxide) were made, no filtration was conducted and the wine was made without any ‘modern’ technological inputs. - Alkimi Wines

Forlorn Hope Songs From Mars Kurocks Grenache 2022

Matt Rorick is a legend in California, farming his old vine, lesser-sung variety vineyard in a back pocket of wine country. His pal makes wine at Massena in the Barossa Valley and they do a kind of winemaker exchange program each year, hence we have Matt’s take on Australian staples at the ready. And they’re brilliant. This grenache is elegant and yet hugely gulpable, a red fruited, sweet spiced red shaped with lacy tannins and brightened with vibrant, natural acidity. The fruit lingers beautifully in the palate, the wine feels seamless and poised. A class act, au naturale.

Latta Vino Wildwest Red Blend 2022

Owen Latta is one of Australia’s best younger gen winemakers and a dab hand at producing light but detailed red wines that you drink with gusto. Here’s another Wild West winner, a vibrant expression full of pretty perfume, spice, red fruit, faint savouriness, fine tannin and a general sense of interest. It’s got that crunch and crispness too. What a cool wine. 

Brash Higgins RIPPLE 2023

Tom Colman, one of the winemakers from Frankly, Bob Made This Wine (Blue Mountains) randomly suggested to winemaker Brad Hickey of Brash Higgins he should whole bunch ferment nero d’Avola and immerse it in cabernet sauvignon juice and then walked away from him, leaving him with this unusual suggestion. Brad thought about it, then did it, and the result was this wine (and its previous releases). Scents and flavours of strawberry, plum, choc-mint, cranberry with a juicy, flowing palate, light tannin presence and a gently spicy finish is the result. Supple, beautiful red wine of easy drinking but quiet complexity. Lovely stuff. 

Ciu Ciu Piceno Bacchus 2022

A satisfying combo of sangiovese and montepulciano marries the rustic charms of the former with the latter's plummy juiciness. Incredibly smooth and well-rounded, this is an approachable and fun red to please all palates.
