Chenin blanc. Divisive for some (it's fuddy duddy, old-school, white wine eww), for others, chenin is beloved and reigns supreme (it's super versatile, adaptable and consistent). We're obvs in the latter group because we bloody love chenin - whether dry, sweet, sparkling or skin-contact - it's a huge yes from us. While its spiritual home is France's Loire Valley, it's now grown throughout the world with each country and region providing a different interpretation of a classic. Not too familiar? We're not super surprised, because although some would argue it never left centre stage, worldwide sales would suggest otherwise. However, in the hands of younger generation vignerons/winemakers and more, it's set and primed for one heck of a comeback.
But! Before we give everything away, we'd rather you all come listen to importer extraordinaire Charlie Simpson* tell us about chenin's origin story. You'll get to hear all about the importance of this grape to France (and the natural wine world at large) while also wrapping your noggins around the different styles made in the Loire and throughout France. Talk about a good way to spend a Wednesday night!

* Charlie Simpson is the founder of Virtuous Vine, a small business importing natural French Wines, all made by passionate ultra respectful farmers of healthy grapes. Charlie lived in France for 8 years, studied a Masters Degree in Wine there and had a generally great time helping out in as many vineyards as he could (and enjoying their spoils of course). Now back in Australia with a large tribe of French/Australians.
