There is no clear definition of natural wine. Natural wine is an umbrella under which wine producers of self-managed organic and/or biodynamic farming provenance apply a minimal intervention process to their winemaking. In the winery, a less-is-more approach to creating wine is undertaken - no additions, save perhaps a very small amount of sulphur, low or no oak usage, no fining or filtration, and fermentation occurring via ambient yeast. It can be a broad school. Exploration of provenance and process are intrinsic to great wine, and the discovery of wines that sit under the natural wine umbrella is for a consumer of the wine to unravel through this exploration.
This tasting is an introductory conversation about natural wines. We’ll talk about the importance of provenance and process of winemaking, demystify some stuff and experience a range of different styles, appreciating wine from a different point of view.
