Czech us out - the wines of Eastern Europe w/ Kasia // Newtown // Weds 6 March 2024 // 6:30-8:30pm

Let's talk wine from behind the Iron Curtain. If you asked about wine from the Eastern/Central Europe overlap we reckon you'd get mixed reactions - you'd find most people scratching their heads, you might have some going straight to Georgia and its rich history of winemaking but you'd find fewer still who would offer up Czech Republic, Hungary or Slovenia. But, we're here to tell you why, if you haven't already dipped a toe, this should be the next region you get into. Main reason for us is that these countries managed to - even under the USSR's aggressive regime to industrialise agriculture and commercialise winemaking - preserve indigenous grape varieties and safeguard traditional winemaking practices (these are THE lands, outside of Georgia, that have focused on elevating orange wines, like hello, Radikon and Dario Princic are practically in Slovenia). Even amongst the individuals, countries and regions there is a bit of argy bargy around the "proper" ways to do things when it comes to wine and who better to help us sort it all out then our resident expert Kasia Sobiesiak. 

Besides being the latest addition to the P&V Wine School team, Kasia also reviews wine for various outlets and most importantly, just got back from a whirlwind tour across Eastern Europe. How convenient! So come join Kasia and get your head around the wine from Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia, Germany and Austria (we know the last two don't technically fit the bill but they're very important to the landscape of wine in that area). We'll even throw in a traditional drink or two from Poland.
