When it comes to natural fizzy stuff, one of the baller regions is undeniably Emilia-Romagna. And add to it a stunning vineyard on the beach, and you end with incredibly saline wines. The vineyard itself deserves to be praised, as all the vines are on their own native rootstock, but are also for most of them over 100 years old, and digging deep in the soil, hence the high salinity in the wines.
Smarazen (name of a local card game) is a blend of 70% indigenous trebbiano and 30% malvasia di candia. It's refreshing, herbacious, citrusy and with a delightful savoury salty finish. Pizza wine, charcuterie wine, aperitivo wine, anything wine.
