Sud de Frank Red 2021
Sud de Frank wines are the result of the Original Odd-Couple pairing of Jared Dixon, of Jilly Wines in New England, NSW, and Dan Graham of Sigurd in the Barossa. The concept being fine, thirst quenching wines, made with grapes from both of their respective regions, at an approachable price point.
Wine by Baby Sapid Golem at the Gates to Kate Bush’s House Pinot Meunier 2021
From the guy who works alongside Peter Dredge in Taswegia, and likes posting pictures of messy looking fried eggs and roadkill, plays the trumpet, and labelled this wine as grenache when its pinot meunier, here’s one of the more interesting wines you’ll try this year, story, and in bottle.
Tart and fresh, crispy and sour (in a good sense), ultra crunchy tannins, somewhat smoky, lots of Aussie bush character in the mix. Wild ride, good ride, like a thirst quenching tonic or alternative health beverage, and in that, really delicious. Not so much winey, but such fun to drink, and a little fine boned for nicety. LIKE! - The Wine Front
Giovanni Armani Giorgio Rosso Del Giorno 2021
An enthusiastic, vibrant and devoutly Catholic red wine for drinking with il diavolo and pepperoni pizza (Dominos probably) in bed. Cherries, plums, cigar box spice and dry tannin.
2021 sees an Adelaide Hills vineyard contributing a good chunk of the fruit, blended with our regular Barossa Valley source. Aged in large format oak, and some time in tank, we have a slightly more serious iteration of our beloved Rosso with the structure to stand up to most foods (except maybe farmed salmon, because you shouldn't be eating that stuff anyway). - Giovanni Armani Giorgio
Futura Bright Red 2021
From organic vines in Mornington Peninsula, this fresh new range of wine from Futura is not just futuristic, but really good. Here, muscat noir is splashed into pinot noir juice to lift the wine, giving extra perfume, some silkiness to texture, a little earthy-savoury funk and a good dash of tart, cranberry fruitiness. It’s a light, fresh, chillable red with crunchy texture, vibrant and refreshing in its nature. Sheesh, this is a live one. Wildly good...
Continental Platter Shiraz 2020
Yarra Valley wine from Principal team in Victoria. Juicy, just shy of medium weight, nice dose of peppery spice, green herb, web of fine, lacy tannins. Vibrant, thirst-quenching shiraz, if that is a thing. This is delightful drinking and though exuberant, sits well as a shy-ish style of wine. I like it. - The Wine Front
Trutta Cab Franc 2021
Juicy carbonic maceration cab franc from Harcourt Valley, Central Victoria. Think raspberry and blackcurrants, red roses and violets too, a little spice...all things nice!
Loves to chill in the fridge first.
