Patrice Beguet Big Bunch Theory Go Together White 2018
Sometimes some of Patrice's wines are a bit of a mystery and some parts invention, often sourcing outside of Jura and blending with local grapes to create his intriguing range of wines. This one is muscadet (melon de Bourgogne), grenache blanc and chardonnay that results in a really textural, skinsy white of chewy feel, ripe citrus fruit characters, floral notes with loads of clove-like spice dusted over everything. Such a fascinating wine, firm with structure and really deep - an orange wine of high calibre and excitement. The wine is a strong indication of why this producer has such a strong following. Dive into the exotic charm.
Domaine Ratte Rubis 2020
In the town of Arbois, you will find this small domaine run by husband and wife team Michel-Henri and Françoise Ratte. Vineyards have been in Françoise’s family for generations but they have always been under the shackles of a fruitier, selling their fruit under contract until now. In 2015 they broke free, not an easy feat considering you are usually signed for life here, and started making wine for themselves from some of the best terroirs in Arbois.
This wine is a co-fermentation of poulsard, pinot noir and trousseau from 90 year old vines. It surprises with its raspberry color and its aromas of citrus, grapefruit, lychees and rose. Discreet tannins hold this wine well. It will easily be combined with grilled meat, exotic, sweet and savory dishes or fish and even a red fruit ganache. Super refreshing due to the slight hint of fizz. Charming and complex!
