La Petit Vanguardist Pet Nat 2021

Seems to be a collection of unusual blends in the pet nat sphere these days with some successful and others not so much. Here, the floral, pretty muscat lifts the chewy, dark cherry and spice characters of the sangiovese beautifully. It’s a zesty, crisp pet nat with tight, racy bubbles, a fruitiness but also dry, savoury element and a really appealing, ‘party time’ perfume with all those florals going on. It feels super easy to drink, refreshing and generally just that little bit extra interesting over rank and file naturally fermented wines.

Hermit Ram Sauvignon Blanc 2021

Theo Coles is one of NZ’s great winemaking talents and a forward thinker in their cosmos of natural wines. This sauvignon blanc sees some gentle but extended skin contact, sourced from two very organic vineyards in the bucolic South Island wine region of North Canterbury. The wine is refreshing, tightly wound, chalky and intense. Citrusy, saline-minerally, shot through with bay leaf, white pepper and green mango. Lovely, easy drinking, pretty and yet delivering a little extra x-factor by leaning into orange wine territory.

Wicked Wild Amber #1 2021

Sourced from the Eden Valley, a portion of this wine was fermented on skins in terracotta amphorae. Notes of sandalwood, ginger, lemon team and a delightly underlying minerality, and there a lightness and a freshness here which we are loving

Brash Higgins Moon-Yay Pinot Meunier 2021

Our first foray into the Adelaide Hills and it’s a wild one. Glowing peach in appearance. The wine is dry yet exudes wild berry, hibiscus-tea, maraschino cherry and ginger aromatics. Out of the gate, it delivers high refreshment with sweet and sour wild strawberry, orange zest and rose petals followed by a zingy, crisp finish with pucker. A gentle, bread note on the tail end from the time on lees adds interest. Drink now and very chilled. This is the definition of a summer quaffer. - Brad Hickey, wine maker

Wine Wave Grenache Trebbiano 2021

A combo of red grapes and white grapes to make a turbo charged summery red of high drinkability and general excitement. Both fermented on skins for a week, then blended to make this wine. Shows scents of floral things, red berries, some faint nuttiness - palate and bouquet in synch on this. The fruit comes from the maritime influenced climate of Mount Gambier, and increasing hot bed for natural wine activity. Wine Wave a producer making waves... ugh, we wen't there...

Wizard Piss II Shiraz 2021

Wizard's Piss is the brainchild of Sam Leyshon from Mallaluka in Yass, NSW with the original wine one that stood out from Sam’s usual roster of wines and labelled for its more alternative styling. This second release is no slouch in the left of centre department, but is wicked drinking nonetheless. It's a wild ride, full of magic, mystery and delight. Yes! A cheerful label, that over delivers in spades. It's fuller flavoured red but one you could slap in the fridge and drink with a chill. It's spicy to sip on, gnarly to taste with dark berry juiciness and a touch of herb and earthiness that gives grunt but interest. It's hearty but you're not going to fall over. Wizard's know stuff...
