Paltrinieri Radice Lambrusco
Lambrusco, not as you know it. Fun as hell, surprisingly tropical, brimming with guava, paw paw and the like. Dry, though, incredibly quenching and genuinely tailored to be the talk of aperitivo hour. This is one of those 'run don't walk' wines that constantly sells out - a loyal following who chase that high quality refreshment factor - now in pink.
Valli Unite Bianco Frizzante IL Brut and the Beast 2018
A fizzy wine from Valli Unite, a coop in Costa Vescovato, Piedmote - where "income is not the main value" and natural winemaking is seen as a social responsibility. There are about 30 people who live here, caring for the vines among orchards, woodlands, pastures and gardens. This is a light and fresh pet nat, clean and crisp and made with love, it's never not the right time to release the beast.
Tim Ward I'll Fly Away Riesling Pet Nat 2019
Tim Ward has always been a big fan of Riesling and in particular the wines from Ruggabellus in the Eden Valley. So it was only a matter of time until he started making wine there and obviously it had to be sparkling as well. Picked a bit later than his 2016, but it only benefits from the extra flavour ripeness. A little bit of skin contact gives this pet nat a little bit of grip on the palate. But it is the nose that draws you in, with aromas of fresh and baked apples, with a hint of lemon peel and brioche in the background. Absolutely clean, precise and delicious.
