Produced from the landmark Hongell Family Vineyard in Krondorf, this is the only one of Standish trio of shiraz wines that includes a small portion of viognier. Wines from this site typically arrive in the glass with power and concentration, but the inclusion of the fragrant white grape, and winemaker Dan Standish’s lighter touch, result in a red of perfume, silky texture, freshness and general sense of higher drinkability. It’s set to more red berry and floral spectrums than expected darker fruits and chocolaty richness – there’s vitality here, fine ropes of tannin and a dove tail finish that’s lipsmacking and lightly puckering at once. One of the the landmark, elegant shiraz wines of the Barossa. No mean feat when all three of the Standish releases are so excellent.
