Caillard wines are brought to life from high quality vineyard sources and strong winemaking input from the namesake Andrew Caillard MW. The wine labels are beautiful with paintings done by Caillard himself. The stuff in the bottle is pretty darn good too. Phil Lehmann executes the winemaking in cahoots with Caillard’s input.
One of those ‘elegant’ Barossa shiraz that celebrates heartland depth and concentration but finds detail, a ripple of fine, silty tannins and offers shape and detail to elevate the offering. Medium weight with plummy fruit, a dusting of warm, brown spice, a touch of walnut and dark chocolate in the mix, panforte comes to mind, and there’s a little attractive salt bush and char to finish. Long, lively and tightly wound, but enough succulent yield to seduce. Beautiful shiraz from any angle. - The Wine Front
