Whoowee, here’s a ripper. Hamish Young, one of the younger gen winemakers of the esteemed Canberra District wine region, has often caught our eye for his nouveau, younger-fresher take on Canberra syrah and here we went deep. It has all the touchstones of quality Canberra shiraz, purple colour, blueberry and mulberry fruit, graphite minerality, the alpine herb detail, and yet it cruises along at this slurpy, bright, less serious but oh so delicious weight and texture. Clever winemaking has eked out all the DNA of this totem variety from the region and yet we get this energetic, ultra delicious, vibrant version. Nice one, Hamish.
