A very interesting Fijian rum, Fiji 2014 was distilled from fermented molasses in a pot still, no additions of sugars or colourings, at South Pacific Distillery which was established in 1979. The cane in this area is grown on very rich volcanic soils and cut by hand, having the cane cut by hand results in a richer cane juice. Green almonds and high-esters on the noise with a dry and nutty palate with mild tropical fruits.
The Transcontinental Rum Line range is inspired by the voyages of rum casks between the New World and the Old Continent (Europe), a collaboration between French independent bottler La Maison du Whisky and Velier (an Italy-based Rum innovator that developed its own Caribbean Rum line in the 1980s). Less than 10 cases are chooses for each rum with each style of rum never exceeding 2000 bottles. The rums do the bulk of their ageing in their country of origin and then transported to the LMDW’s facility in Cognac to complete their ageing.
