Svensk Rök (Swedish Smoke) is the only smoky single malt whisky made from Swedish ingredients only. Smoking the whisky with juniper branches this is a truly unique whiskey, notes of light peat, tobacco leaves and a herbal aromas of green fruits and anise with a dry and pleasing minerally salty finish. A truly pleasing dram.
In an effort to be more environmentally sustainable not only do they source gran only from Sweden and have it malted in Sweden, they find the shortest and most environmentally-friendly methods of transport as possible. The water used comes from the river that runs through the estate and only uses UV-light for filtration, and when smoking they use their in house smoke malt from the boiler room and the peat comes from Karinmossen, just outside Gävle, and the juniper twigs are from an energy company that has the job of clearing power line strips on local heathland.
The distillery is something to see, 35 Metres tall it replies on gravity distilling, the ingredients are taken to level 7 and 6 at the top of the building to start the cleaning and sifting, once that is done it flows down to level 5, the roller mill, then flowing into the mash tun on level 4, level 3 is where fermentation takes place, level 2 is distilling and finally level 1 is the new make floor and barrel room.
