Yes, our very own! In collaboration with Beenleigh, the oldest operating distillery in Australia, who is still crafting their smaller batches of rum in a vat still, the only one of its kind in Australia. Fermented from molasses and aged for two years in a range of historic wooden maturation vats which once housed Australian Brandy before being transferred to ex-bourbon barrels for transport to Cognac. The Australia 2015 is full bodied and ripe with notes of melon, pineapple and raisins before moving into a spicy nutty finish which is long and dry. This is an epic example of what amazing rums Australia can produce!
The Transcontinental Rum Line range is inspired by the voyages of rum casks between the New World and the Old Continent (Europe), a collaboration between French independent bottler La Maison du Whisky and Velier (an Italy-based Rum innovator that developed its own Caribbean Rum line in the 1980s). Less than 10 cases are chooses for each rum with each style of rum never exceeding 2000 bottles. The rums do the bulk of their ageing in their country of origin and then transported to the LMDW’s facility in Cognac to complete their ageing, in this case 2 years in Australia and 2 year in Cognac.
