This cuvee is old vine parellada, now reaching close to 80 years, planted on a single site just outside Blancafort in Conca de Barbera. This ancient natural amphitheatre has been a renowned viticultural area since Roman times and the majority of the terroir is made up of young calcareous matter. This alkaline soil lends the wines inherent natural acidity and a low PH, yet the wines have more of a supple nature and are less angular and direct than wines grown on pure limestone or chalk.
In the case of the 2021 Parellada, this balance occurred with just 10% abv making the final wine a delicate and exceptionally delicious aperitif as well a top bottle to enjoy with just about anything briny or salty. As always, Jordi allowed this cuvee a couple of days macerating prior to being pressed off to amphora for fermentation and elevage. Spellbinding! - Campbell Burton, importer
