Owen Latta’s winemaking skills have been honed since he was 15 years old when his father, Norm Latta, was unable to partake in harvest and vintage. Guided by his dad from hospital/home, Owen managed to get wine off vines and into bottle. Fast-forward some 15-or-so years and his experience is telling. Meanwhile, we have riesling from Central Victoria here. Tense, taut, tangy and terrific, it’s a dart-shaped thrust of lime on green apple with licks of nuttiness shot through. A wonderful, refreshing but complex expression. It’s riesling with the volume turned up, not needle-thrust summery stuff. It’s so darn delicious.
