2021 // 750ml // ABV 13.8%

This is one of two debut releases from the impressive – judging by her cv – Lauren Langfield. She’s had her own organic viticulture company, worked for William Downie’s estate vineyard for five years, moved to Basket Range to be a winemaker at BK wines and is now the manager and winemaker at Orbis. But the wine here is obviously her personal endeavour. It’s Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc pushed for ripeness – to avoid grass/green characters – and later matured in oak. It feels powerfully set but it also feels detailed. The palate here really does have some presence. Candied pineapple and pear, citrus, woodsmoke, slate and pure peach-like flavour push persuasively through the palate. It has texture but it’s more than just softness and/or smoothness; there’s a chalky-almost-gritty dryness that is most attractive, and apt. This wine feels seamless and complete but it also feels as though it has more yet tucked up its sleeve. This is not your average sauvignon blanc. - The Wine Front
