This wine is made by the formidable Jutta Ambrositsch, with support from her husband Marco. Jutta started out as a graphic designer in Vienna before a change of direction in 2004 found her heading into the vineyards. Now with 10 parcels over 4 hectares, all organically farmed, Ambrositsch are creating magnificent micro-cuvees to show the historic terroir through the lens of a young winemaker.
As Ambrositsch has chosen to not be in the DAC, they cannot use the vineyard names on the label, but this wine comes from one of their prized vineyards, the Reisenberg. It was planted all to gruner veltliner in the 1960’s. The wine is structured, intense and bright. Just ripe nectarine and mango, a little pineapple core and a mineral backbone that carries the wine through with a beautifully long finish. Less than 1000 bottles were made, so I would get in quick. Drink this while nibbling on some oysters or fresh crudo – I know I will be.
