The remarkable wines of the Perego family of Valtellina, northern Italy – the historical home of nebbiolo. This one-off masterclass will deep-dive into these incredible, rare and precious wines. If you are an enthusiast of nebbiolo, the wines of Piedmont, or antipodean examples, this is a window into the historical past of the variety, and an amazing story of resurrecting a wine region that had faded into relative obscurity.
Established over 150 years ago the winery has charted the fortune of the historical and traditional production of nebbiolo in this extraordinary, alpine environment. Vineyards are located at elevation on vertiginous terraces, with the alpine environment strong in its impact on perfume, flavour and texture of these wines.
Organic farming of course underpins the winemaking, and minimal intervention in cellar, including using large format vessels, is a gateway to the purity, finesse and detail found in these wines.
This is a tasting and conversation that will cover all cuvees and some cellar-released wines available in Australia. Over the years, both Gary and Giorgio have been visitors to the famed estate and bring together knowledge and experience working with these wines. This is not to be missed.
We will taste 10 different wines, with light snacks provided alongside.
