Ari’s Natural Wine Co is based in New South Wales Southern Highlands, a small project of father and son origin driven by the cultural ties to their Greek heritage. “We just make wine like we always have, there’s not any trying to do natural wine, it just is like how the family wines were always made”, says Tony Zafirakos, the son in the equation. While farming their own property in the Southern Highlands has made up some of the grapes for some of the wines, Tony sources from across New South Wales to bolster volume. This is a white wine made from various grapes.
This is a delight. Teeters into the wild style zone but retains vitality and drinkability. Has the textural detail but retains inherent freshness. The wine squishes in the palate with pretty tropical fruit flavours and tightens around a light chalkiness. The wine is juicy too, so a bit of a crowd pleaser in the lighter, orange wine spectrum. A sense of deliciousness and ease of drinking is inherent, though the hazy pale orange glow in terms of colour in the glass might speak a different story. Love it.
