Montepulciano can often go the wrong way – gluggy, soft, sweetish – but in the hands of great producers comes out spicy, imbued with herbal detail, swished with fine tannins, bright and lighter than expected but with good flavour and perfume in tow. Here’s one that ticks boxes. From organic farmed vines comes this savoury, just shy of medium bodied red wine that hosts pleasing sour cherry, truffley-undergrowth characters and brambly-berry. Straight up delicious drinking, is the message. You’re going to bust this one out first, we wager, it’s got that skol factor and general ambience of good times.
