The area of Savoie has been planted with vines since the roman era, yet many vineyards lay fallow. In 1998 a team of passionate people worked to resurrect two steep and rocky areas overgrown by forest. Together they created Domaine des Ardoisieres and its two vineyards Coteau de Cevins and Saint Pierre de Soucy. The domaine is now led by Brice Ormont, originally from the Champagne region and considered to be Savoie’s brightest star. Using biodynamic techniques and principles, the domaine grows predominantly native Savoyard grapes.
Matured in oak, the Ameythyste Rouge is 40% mondeuse noire and 60% persan. Persan is a local and rather rare variety, experiencing a small resurgence. Many moons ago, Dr Paul Ramain wrote in his book Les Grands Vins de France, that persan is like a 'peacock's tail in the throat'! Juicy, crisp yet deeply spiced, with red and black fruit flavours. Suave crunchy tannins and a line of mineral energy throughout. This feels downright luxurious, so treat yourself!
