The area of Savoie has been planted with vines since the roman era, yet many vineyards lay fallow. In 1998 a team of passionate people worked to resurrect two steep and rocky areas overgrown by forest. Together they created Domaine des Ardoisieres and its two vineyards Coteau de Cevins and Saint Pierre de Soucy. The domaine is now led by Brice Ormont, originally from the Champagne region and considered to be Savoie’s brightest star. Using biodynamic techniques and principles, the domaine grows predominantly native Savoyard grapes.
Quartz Blanc is 100% Altesse grown in the Coteau de Cevins vineyard. The variety is also known as roussette in the Savoie. Fermented and matured in oak for 18 months, it is crystalline yet smoky, then tropical and spiced. Ideally decant for 30 minutes prior to serving to let its true form unfurl. A serious contender for stashing away, but chin-stroking material now.
