The area of Savoie has been planted with vines since the roman era, yet many vineyards lay fallow. In 1998 a team of passionate people worked to resurrect two steep and rocky areas overgrown by forest. Together they created Domaine des Ardoisieres. The domaine is now led by Brice Ormont, originally from the Champagne region and considered to be Savoie’s brightest star. Quartz Blanc is 100% Altesse. The variety is also known as roussette in the Savoie. Fermented and matured in oak for 18 months, it is crystalline yet smoky, tropical and spiced. Ideally decant for 30 minutes prior to serving to let its true form unfurl. A serious contender for stashing away, but chin-stroking material now.
