Moondarra Serpent Series Prosecco NV
Not reinventing the wheel here, but doing pet nat Prosecco is kinda cool from our mate Neil Prentice, the sybarite winemaker and all round crazy cat from Gippsland, Victoria. Free spirit Neil has been thinking out of the box since he was in nappies, and has applied his creative vision to this unconventional but wildly delicious expression of Prosecco. It’s hazy like cloudy apple juice in the glass, offers a bouquet of nougat, buttered toast and green apple to sniff on. Flavours are fresh, green apple-y, citrusy, a little nutty and salty. It’s got lots of charisma and super high drinkability. A winner. And a great rendition of the party staple.
Baltic Tea Bianco 2020
This one is a textural, saline, refreshing white. The ones that are all crunchy and sorta salty, but in the best sense of that word, and there's fruitiness but not too much, and a little herbal twist for good measure. Unusual in the make-up, it's a blend of greco, sauvignon blanc and chardonnay, and the whole lot gets fermented in old French oak barrels. Good farming too - nice and sustainably done in the Riverland. We're drinking bucketloads of this by bodies of water.
Smallfry Tangerine Dream 2021
Tangerine Dream is from old, dry-grown vineyards planted circa WW1 in the Barossa Valley. Cloudy with a deep golden hue. The wine's cepage is a field blend of semillon, Pedro Ximenez, riesling, rousanne and muscat. Aromas of wholemeal rice bran, farmhouse apple cider, and soft spices. The palate is full bodied and dry and could be summarised as a red drinkers white.
Mallaluka Rose 2020
This wine is slightly on the sweeter side and a smidge of volatile acidity. If you're into Foie gras then it would pair beautifully. - Sam Leyshon, wine maker
Yugen Thunder Snow 2019
Named for a rare winter weather event, this bright syrah has a dash of pinot gris and carmenere thrown in for good measure. With a little whole bunch in the ferment, it was aged in old oak and tank. Gluggable red, good chilled or room temp, from the glass or the bottle!
Ciu Ciu Piceno 2020
If you're looking for a Tuesday night pizza delivery wine, look no further. A satisfying combo of sangiovese and montepulciano marries the rustic charms of the former with the latter's plummy juiciness. Incredibly smooth and well-rounded, approachable and fun. Organic, too.
