Garage Project Fun Juice Pet Nat 2019

Pretty hard to defy the name of the wine... sure is fun. FUN! Meanwhile, this is one of those thirst-quenching, 'juice box school Popper' kinda wines - heaps of fruitiness, lots of vitality, crunchy texture, that brisk tickle of fizzy bubbles. It's wicked pet nat, a touch funky, lots of character and generally just rates super high on the drinkability scale. Meanwhile, the fruit comes from happy vineyards in Nelson, New Zealand, and the collaborative producers of this wine are Garage Project, brewers of killer beers, and our mate Alex Craighead from Kindeli. Ticks all the boxes.

Garagiste Cotier Sauvignon 2015

Sauvignon blanc and carbonic maceration/skin contact can result in a wine on the edge. In this case it's Manuka honey, tropical fruit, green herbs/capsicum/pepper, with a sniff of honeycomb. Dig in. - The Wine Front

Somos Naranjito 2020

This is verdelho to knock your socks off. Indeed, this could be the world’s most interesting and complex expression of the much-maligned variety. It spends 180 days on skins; from biodynamic farmed vines. Incredible texture, chalky, powdery, intense and chewy, but all that chomp comes with a juicy, internal flow of mandarin juiciness, pithy grapefruit, wild herb complexity. It rushes across the palate wild and unfettered but presents with so much interest. Thirst-quenching and crazy at once. Love this. Such a ride. 

Seven Eves Carbonic Pinot Gris 2020

Fun new label made by Ben Caldwell and Mauricio Ruiz Cantu of Somos. This is their take on the traditional variety of pinot gris but done with fourteen days of carbonic maceration, where the fruit was sealed away as whole bunches in a vat before pressing off. It's a wild and compelling ride, textural and fruity but not sweet. It shows some grip and pucker in texture, a starburst of blood orange acidity to close. Compelling stuff. Fun drinking. 

Made by Monks Syrah Semillon 2019

A younger generation Tasmanian wine producer here – solo project from noted tassie wine guy Luke Monks. Syrah and semillon here. Take note, Hunter Valley!

Juicy and crunchy in the same breath. Light, vibrant and a few shades up from rose. Cranberry tang, light dried herb characters, a touch of saline minerality, exceptional feel and so much freshness here. Poised, pure feeling and so wonderful to drink. - The Wine Front
