Alex Della Vecchia Grinton Movest 2020
Alex Della Vecchia is a younger generation wine producer growing grapes and making wine in the shadow of the Dolomites in northern Italy. He has studied under greats of natural wine, and has forged ahead with his own project since 2010. This is a naturally sparkling wine produced from 20-year-old chardonnay vines, planted on heavily limestone inflected soils. Half the wine is direct-pressed, half is fermented on skins for 30 days. It is blended, rested for a year, and then juice from the same harvest is added to kick off fermentation again - it is bottled alive, and sparkles naturally! Delicious, wild edged and crisp with strong, stone fruit, herb and mineral characters. A very good fizz ensues.
Wicked Wild White 2021
A fresh, textural white blend of white grapes (yeah!) sourced in the Riverland, South Australia. This one is crunchy and fruity with notes of lemon sorbet, green apple, a bit of mandarin and some light, nutty savouriness. It's a fun wine, it's an interesting wine. So kick back and be refreshed! OK?
aller trop loin Sweetness & Light 2021
Mark Sztar, winemaker, is an old raver from back in the day and has named this wine for the epic track Sweetness and Light by the Aus rave act Itch-E & Scratch-E - a banger in any language. The wine is riesling, fermented on skins for just under two weeks and a feast for the senses in floral, nutty-savoury, spicy, fresh and dried citrus scents and flavours. A great chew of tannin and a flood of minerally acidity is also found here. It’s wickedly drinkable and all up super refreshing, but with depth.
Ohkela Wines Sophia's Rose 2020
Francis Ford Coppola winery do a Sofia rose, Si Vintners do a Sophie rose, Calabria Bros had a Sophie rose too, Craggy Range do a Sophia wine likewise. Just came to mind. Indie outfit working in and out of Swan Valley producing brilliant, small batch wines of charisma and electric personality. Here’s a live one, it’s 100% chenin blanc, well, not quite, because a big tea bag of shiraz skins sits in the juice for two weeks. Brilliant. Beautiful perfume of honeysuckle, candied citrus, rose petal, white strawberry. - The Wine Front
Gilgraves Sangiovese 2020
A different but wholly good take on sangiovese. Interesting producer here. Easy to like wines. GilGraves family vineyard is in Axedale and located somewhere between Heathcote and Bendigo while the wines are produced at the Boomtown collective facility with insight from the family. Nice.
Bright and juicy, fresh and light, tannin AWOL but slurpy drinkability through the roof. Sweet cherry juice, sprinkle of cinnamon spice, lick of kirsch, a little kiss of amaro through the finish. Just so darn pleasing to drink! - The Wine Front
Dilworth & Allain Coup de Foudre Pincha 2021
Pinot and chardonnay, from Macedon and Pyrenees respectively. Savoury, dried cherry, smoky spice, undergrowth and game meat scents and flavours. Sappy texture, loose knit and juicy with good concentration and depth, a kinda funky, earthy element rolling through and a nice chomp to finish. Delicious drinking, take a nice chill. - The Wine Front
