This is a field blend of several native and obscure varietals: sangiovese, lambrusco grasparossa, negrettino, uva tosca, marzemino, lambrusco di sorbara and barbera to be exact. Phew!
Producer Jacopo Stigliano lovingly restored ancient, once abandoned vineyards in the largely overlooked region of Valsamoggia, looking to showcase the diversity of grapes indigenous to the area and pay homage to the Italian tradition of filed blends.
Precision and focus in the vineyard shines through here with a sense of purity, bright red fruits, black cherries, a sting of orange and a savoury edge. Floral things on the nose. Just lovely. Just do it.
