Jean Jacques Morel is one of the gentlest and kindest souls in the wine world. Alongside being one hell of a gentleman, he's a brilliant winemaker, and has held the title of Burgundy's smallest (in land) vigneron for a long time. He came to Australia to show his wines at Rootstock Sydney festival and on a visit to the Adelaide Hills, fell in love with the place and, in a huge benefit to us, now makes wine there. Wonderful.
A coup that he is now making sangiovese, right? JJ's take on the variety leans to lighter, cherry juice and pomegranate characters, lots of spice, a splash of root beer and cola. It's sandy in tannins and earthy in flavours. It's just awesome.
