Yann Bertrand is a third generation Beaujolais winemaker, overseeing the estate which was acquired by his grandfather Louis in 1972. Two decades later in 1992, stewardship passed to Yann's parents Guy and Annick, who began transitioning to organic farming starting in 2008. Finally, in 2012 (the Bertrands love a twenty year cycle it seems), Yann took the reigns, attaining organic certification for their vineyards and beginning the journey towards complete biodynamic viticulture methods. All Les Bertrand wines are made with zero additions.
The Fleurie Mon Petit Cheri is 100% Gamay Noir from 40+ year old vines grown in rich loamy soils. Eight months elevage in older oak. Raspberries and violets with a savoury edge. Opens beautifully. The dense black fruit moves into anise with a weave of salivation. Supple with great length. - Liz Carey, importer
