Welcome to the República Independiente del Verdejo under President Ismael Gozalo!
Ismael Gozalo is a fifth-generation winemaker with his family owning some of the oldest verdejo vines in Spain - think high altitude vineyards with 100 to 260-year-old, ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines that have never seen chemical treatments. While verdejo forms the core of the MicroBio wines (it's the main grape variety of the region and what Ismael is renowned for), Ismael also makes energetic reds of high drinkability from small parcels of tempranillo, rufete, merlot and syrah.
He follows the practices of his grandparents where the aim of his work in the vineyard is to maintain balance and harmony with nature. The resulting wines are chock full of character, speak to a sense of place while also being ballistically fresh and fun.
Don't miss this insane, not to be repeated, opportunity to meet Ismael and taste eight of his wines. P&V's very own Mike Bennie will host this masterclass, guiding us through the tasting and what is sure to be a lively and energetic discussion about the legendary project that is MicroBio wines. Seats extremely limited.
