Sullivans Cove Distillery produces Australia’s most awarded whisky, and only just a few months ago brought home the trophy for World’s Best Single Cask Single Malt at the World Whiskies Awards, becoming the first (and only) in the world to win the title twice. It should come as no surprise, then, that the brandies they release are no stranger to prizes and medals as well. In a collaboration we’re really happy to get behind, they’ve teamed up with our mates at Ramblin’ Rascal Tavern, blended a double cask XO brandy and called it Purple Rain. It’s a golden-brown beauty, from four casks of distilled chardonnay, pinot noir, gewürztraminer and cab sauv, aged for at least 10 years in old bourbon and French oak tawny Port barrels. Charlie Lehmann, self-proclaimed “Tug Boat Driver/Director” of the Tav, describes it as follows: “Burly, robust and long, with a creamy finish. Stand-outs of almonds, molasses, brown sugar and Christmas pudding, with hints of black pepper and tropical fruits such as cooked pineapple.” We describe it as “must-have.” There are only 571 bottles on earth. The time is now.
