Cult wine alert! Daniel Sage makes highly coveted, super hands-off wines in the Ardeche, that glorious, mountainous pocket of the Northern Rhone. This is gamay, but like all his wines, has a power and expressiveness that make it feel very much like its own thing. Pomegranate molasses, black cherries, a little bit of smoke, dried herb and a touch of balsamic. Layered, brooding and punchy, but with a friskiness and perky acidity that demands a chill, as well as some salami and a block of hard cheese.
