The Pirate is a light-ish, medium-ish, fresh expression of red wine with fruit all picked on the same day - 90% merlot and 10% semillon. The wine sees seven days of carbonic maceration and then all the fruit is fermented (& foot-stomped) together in stainless steel. It leads to a bright and yet generous, dark-fruited and spicy drop. It was aged in French oak barrel for eight months before bottling, so there's a hint of warm spice in the mix. No additives to be seen. JB recommends you pour the Pirate to your boat crew at about 12C (i.e. out of the fridge) to keep them hydrated and ready for a raid.
