Domaine Dupraz!

Domaine Dupraz!

Another new producer alert! (Except not quite, seeing as Domaine Dupraz was established all the way back in 1880 – it’s just new to the shop.) Now in the hands of the fifth and sixth generation, the domaine encompasses 18.5 organically farmed hectares in the Apremont, the only department of the Savoie with glacial moraine soils. There’s also a Burgundy-esque approach taken in the cellar, where the wines are vinified parcel by parcel and even in some cases by different sections of the same parcel, then matured for anywhere up to five years. Incredible stuff.

We’re stoked to be spruiking three cuvées from this formidable estate, all of which are thrilling and multifaceted expressions of jacquère – one of the Savoie’s too-often unsung indigenous white varieties. For an easy-breezy take, look to the 2022 En Route Pour L’Apero. It’s a frisky one, bristling with sunny alpine sensibility, green tree fruits and a general sense of joie de vivre. Apero time, all the time.

The 2022 Le Moulin offers a substantial step up in terms of complexity and amplitude, spending five months on lees and all the richer for it. Flavour-wise, we’re talking a slightly more citrus-driven palate, shaped by preserved lemon, pineapple and cut grass. Take one step further and you’ll land on the abundantly fresh 2022 Les Terres Blanches, which layers pear, apple and quince, with trademark hints of honey, talc and dried flowers finding their way into the mix. Eight months on lees lends creaminess, and a crystalline acidity drives it all home. Wowza.

It's amazing how different these three wines are despite their sameness in terms of variety and origin, let alone how much depth and detail they manage to pack in even at feather-light ABV. Grab one and see for yourself
