By now, surely you are familiar with the wines of James Erskine, a pioneer in his own right. He started the Jauma (pronounced ‘yow-mah’, let’s settle that once and for all) label in 2009, and now in his twelfth vintage, it is safe to say he has firmly established himself as one of our burgeoning natural wine scene’s truest champions.
The guy has a way with chenin blanc, no doubt, but it’s grenache that really sets him apart (when in other hands it can be a real soupy, jammy mess). “It’s always fragrant,” he says. “It’s frivolous when you unleash it, and it is simply perfect for producing wines in the McLaren Vale regions without the addition or subtraction of anything.” This release sees fourteen (yes, FOURTEEN!) different delights land in-store. It really is like a choose your own adventure. Always fan-favourites with the zero-zero gang, these wines have NO additions whatsoever, and sing with signature untamed rusticity and fleeting freshness. Here for a good time, not a long time.
