Made by Monks is the cool project from Luke Monks, a younger generation Tasmanian wine producer. He's now a few vintages in to this solo venture and making some of the most approachable and fun wines we've seen come out of Tassie in a while. After a few stints in Europe doing what he likes to call 'wine travel', Luke made his way back home to Tassie. In 2015 he decided to stay to lend a mate (not just any friend, but Nick Glaetzer, 2005 Gourmet Traveller Wine Young Gun Winemaker of the year) a hand in setting up Hobart's Glaetzer-Dixon urban winery.
He's gone and done bright, fresh takes on semillon in three ways– two straight up and one with a twist of syrah. Yes, we hear you thinking, semillon? Tasmania? But please hear us out because these really dial-in that summer saline sea spray kinda vibe and that syrah semillon blend, whoa, watch out. It's got that crunchy, juicy, cranberry tang that keeps you going back for more.
