Coming at you from the mean streets of Newtown, is some bloody good gin. While gin as a category is pretty much peak normcore by now, it's the variations and experimentation with flavour profiles that really gets us going. Meet Moonshiner, a collaboration of inner-west neighbours (Tim Barrett, Jane Eakin, Andy Leonard, Georgie Carroll and Lauren Griffin to be exact) who went from distilling bathtub-style as a salubrious side project into what we have on our shelves today.
They're committed to keeping things local as possible whenever possible - they source from street sides (the lemon myrtle comes from trees around P&V) local back yards (much of the fruit comes from Andy's mum's garden) and when they're looking for anything more exotic they look to small family run farms across Australia (green walnuts for the nocino come from an organic farm in the Victorian highlands).
There are four wickedly good things to choose from, all named after all our beloved streets in Newtown - Margaret St Signature Gin, Lennox St Nocino Walnut Gin, Simmons St Aussie Native Gin, Alice St Pomegranate Gin. All hold their own with tonic, in a cocktail or just on ice with a splash of soda and whatever garnish takes your fancy.
