Moorak is a rising star in the avant garde wine set of Aussie wines. A first generation winemaker, Jordan Hein has applied himself to wine through a hearty dose of vocational experience, judicious experimentation and an application to the craft that sees his resulting wines as pure, complex, fine expressions of their various styles. Moorak started in 2018 and has grown at a quiet and sustainable pace, with a focus on bright, vibrant expressions of South Australia with some left of centre input making things a bit fun, too. These are some seriously good gear, delivering some x-factor that speaks of balance between edgier natural wines and those that work in the fine wine arena. A nice formula, per se!
Jordan is based in the bucolic Kaurna land (McLaren Vale, SA) though he seeks fruit from various vineyards in Adelaide Hills, Mount Gambier and other locations, alongside the local offering. Our picks of recent releases have been the featherweight, pretty and pure feeling reds made from pinot meunier and pinot noir. These are wines of thirst-quenching nature and detail. Chardonnay from Mount Gambier is a rising star, with strong influence from the ocean seemingly writ large in local wines. Jordan's Mt G chardonnay is similarly beautifully salty and refreshing, with a nod in the direction of Jura for its flavour and mineral charm. These are awesome wines and speak fluently of a bold new talent in Aussie wine.
