s this it? Can it be? Has the unofficial drink of summer finally landed? In the form of an amaro and tonic RTD by Melbourne’s Saison Aperitifs and Adelaide’s Mischief Brew?
What a meeting of the minds this is, between two of the country’s greats – the former, helmed by Embla chef-owner Dave Verheul, producing hyper-seasonal, produce-forward vermouths and amari; the latter a maker at the vanguard of small-batch sodas and non-alc cocktails.
So, what’s in the tin? A barrel-aged amaro built on Victorian moscato carried by blood orange, marigolds, cumquat and the herbal sting of oregano, mixed with a custom tonic water. A citrus-bright cracker straight from the tin after an arvo swim, but maybe even better given a bit of extra love in an ice-filled tumbler with an orange wedge and an olive or two ahead of dinner.
