It's always exciting to get our hands on a new vintage from Barry and Jan Morey's certified-Biodynamic Beechworth vineyard and winery, and their 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Merlot is no exception.
As with all Sorrenberg wines, there is the trademark precision and attention to detail on display here, with every element of the final wine from viticulture through to vinification very clearly a considered and intentional choice. Despite the label suggesting a cabernet sauvignon dominated blend, the 2022 vintage is actually primarily comprised of merlot and cabernet franc, with small parcels of malbec, petit verdot and carmanere rounding out the blend, alongside cabernet sauvignon.
The resulting wine is an elegant, perfumed, finely structured thing - think Beaujolais by way of Bordeaux - plum, blackcurrant and spice in a wonderfully balanced framework that deftly balanced silky softness with fine-grained tannin and tight acidity. Gorgeous stuff.
