Brash Higgins MCC Mataro Cinsault Carignan 2021

Winemaker Brad Hickey calls this an “Aussie Côtes du Rhône” – and who are we to argue? Instead of banging up your typical grenache and shiraz-led blend, however, he’s put cinsault and carignan in the driver’s seat next to mataro, resulting in a wine that’s more lifted and perfumed. Ruby red in the glass, jam-packed with cherry intensity, a bundle of sweet baking spices and rose petals in full bloom on top. Big and generous and expressive, but balanced, too. So solid.

Emmalene Pinot Noir 2024

Emmalene is a project from an older gen growing family in the Adelaide Hills - they focus on sustainability in farming and decided to turn their hand to making their own gear from their own supply. This is pretty straight-forward pinot noir, vibrant red fruits with hints of spice and salivating acidity. Love a chill if the weather calls for it.

Municipal Wines Whitegate Shiraz 2019

Very intense and complex with a lovely spicy character, red and black currents, black pepper, wild raspberry, clove, all spice and a well integrated whole bunch dimension. Think Cote Rotie!!

P&V Session Red 2022

Screw tasting notes. It's made by Blind Corner, the colour is red, it's some sort of cabernet blend and my glass seems to have a hole in it....

Kevin Red 2023

Kevin is the newest, freshest release from the Brian wine trio of Peter Dredge (Dr Edge), Joe Holyman (Stoney Rise/Holyman) and our Mike Bennie. This one is a blend of pinot meunier and pinot gris. It ends up being a spicy, herb-laced red of vivacious nature, ideal for drinking real cold, real easy. Red fruited, pretty in a way, light and crunchy in texture. It's brilliant.

Brave New Wine Small Town Red 2022

A charismatic and very original blend of varieties, red and white, that ends up in a sloshy, soft, juicy red of dark cherry, sour cherry, turned earth, dried herbal characters with pepper and truffle in tow. It’s easy drinking, generous in a way, crisp with acidity and then a little chewy and chompy with soft tannins chiming in. Good vibes here, off beat, unusual, floral, meaty, fruity all in the same breath. Wonderful wine.
