Les Deux Moulins Pinot Noir 2023

Uncomplicated and uncompromisingly pinot noir. When drinking is more important than thinking.

Avalon Wine Co Tinto 2023

Made by gun winemaker Michael Corbett (Vanguardist) this is a juicy, bright and crisp red wine set to shy of medium weight with a stronghold of sweet-sour red berry fruitiness coupled to aniseed, dried herbs and peppery spice. It’s super on the drinkability scale, very crunchy in its overall feel and generally just a wickedly drinkable thing. The combo of the unusual (for Australia) varieties gives the wine distinct personality and a huge sense of charm. Fun. Good. Great.

Renzaglia Sangiovese 2023

This is sensational. Tightly wound, as light as pinot noir or pelaverga, a touch of crunch, sinewy, powdery tannins stretching luxuriously. A distinct, red berry fruitiness with favourable, pleasing bitterness in tow. Indeed, a feature through the wine is its refreshing nature of spice, bitter notes, tannin profile, all so well resolved and deliciously wound around each other. Compact, fine boned sangio done so well.

P&V Session Red 2022

Screw tasting notes. It's made by Blind Corner, the colour is red, it's some sort of cabernet blend and my glass seems to have a hole in it....

Mallaluka Mataro Shiraz 2022

A blend of mataro and shiraz ain’t new, but in the hands of punky winemaker Sam Leyshon they sit outside the box. It’s quite generous, soft and supple, dark fruited with licks of game meat and woody spice, a dash of alpine herbs and white pepper. It’s got that sense of wicked drinkability going on, a lovely slosh in the glass that sits similar in the palate, loose, bright, easy. The wines from Sam can do no wrong, but this is the upper tier. We love it.

Gonzaldo Grijalba Gran Cerdo Tempranillo 2022

Look, we can fill your minds with fancy chat about how this bright, juicy, gluggable tempranillo made in concrete tanks and from happy vineyards, but really, the chat here is about how the wine is built for annihilating with pizza, made for smashing out of tumblers in your backyard while setting fire to things, glugging with a chill with your pants off on mid week Couch Island retreats. You get the deal. Insane drinkability.
