Auvergne
Located in central France, Auvergne is a mountainous region known for its rich, volcanic soils. Primarily planted to the red varieties gamay and pinot noir, with chardonnay being the most prominent white grape in the region.
Marie et Vincent Tricot White Light 2022 - Marie & Vincent Tricot are pioneers of natural wine in Auvergne, producing a small range of elegant and highly drinkable wines from their certified organic vineyards. Naturally fermented with no added sulphites, White Light is a blend of chardonnay and muscat. Expect a bright, aromatic white with ripe peach, citrus and apple notes, and a gentle floral lift from the muscat.
Aveyron
Aveyron, in the country's south-west, is home to a unique micro-climate influenced equally by its proximity to both the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and the Mediterranean to the south-east. Combined with the dry, granite-heavy soils, the region produces wonderfully expressive and refined wines.
Nicolas Carmarans Selves 2020 - From winemaker Nicolas Carmarans comes this classically powerful-but-elegant example of chenin blanc. You'll get the layers of ripe quince, pear and citrus the variety is known for, with a soft, textural mouthfeel that is balanced beautifully by clean, lingering acidity.
Burgundy
One of France's most famous regions, best known for it's elegant, old-world chardonnay and pinot noir, but also home to a growing contingent of exciting natural winemakers doing things outside the bounds of the areas strict traditions.
Alexandre Jouveaux Prety 2019 - High-fashion-photographer-turned-winemaker Alexandre Jouveaux is one such producer. Preferring to exist outside the rules and regulations of the Mâcon appellation where he is based, all his wines are instead labelled with the much broader Vin de France designation. This allows him to produce contemporary and forward-thinking wines that still showcase the terroir of the region and the purity of it's fruit, but within a framework all their own. Prety is 100% Biodynamic chardonnay with zero additions.
Jura
Formerly regarded as something of a hidden gem amongst those in the know, the unique, characterful wines of Jura - situated in the country's north, between Burgundy and the Swiss border - have drawn more and more attention in recent years, and rightly so.
Domaine Tissot Arbois Savagnin Ouille Traminer 2020 - Benedicte & Stephane Tissot are certified Jura legends, producing some of the regions most expressive and highly regarded wines. This is a pristine example of Savagnin Ouille - the brighter, fresher variant of Jura's two savagnin styles. Juicy, punchy lemon curd and cashews interwoven with racy, mouthwatering acidity and a moreish mineral, saline finish.
Lorraine
A relatively small wine-growing region in France's north-east, bordering Belgium, with chalky, limestone soils similar to those of Burgundy.
Bruno Vacon les Innocents Ou Coule un Riviere 2020 - This wine showcases riesling and chardonnay in a distinctly classical and elegant style. Bright acidity, citrus and a touch of apple/stone fruit, with a lean, slate-like mineral finish.
