Harkham Aziza's Shiraz 2023

The Harkham shiraz wines sit outside the tried and tested, rote at times red wines of Hunter, happily more abundant, less primped and preened, natural in their expressions. This wine continues the legacy. Oh, and Kosher certified, and preservative free too. The latter something Harkham has mastered over many years.

It’s a looser knit, sappy and savoury red wine, a sluice of wild raspberry, wild cherry, violet florals, dried herbs, white pepper, touches of game meat, some bergamot notes and a slosh of mulberry/’purple’ going on. It marches to its own beat, feels nourishing and rich in a way, but holds onto an inherent freshness, a lift, an uninhibited purity. The wine cares to be delicious, moreish, decidedly au naturale in its feel, and great for it. A class act where flavour isn’t scrimped on and nothing is adjusted to measure.
