Mahmood Fazal is an investigative journalist, and something of a wine enthusiast. He writes a wine column for Esquire magazine too, which is quite a feat, given print media wine reviews have almost disappeared these days. Anyway, he was going to send this in, though in a chance meeting, I saw him at City Wine Shop and he pulled a bottle out of his bag. So here it is. 600 bottles produced.
Black fruit, blood and dried roses, exotic spice, dried herbs, a bit of lift here, though I’m OK with that. It’s fleshy, kind of sooty and rich in tannin, a little ripe and breathy, but those hazelnutty tannins and its depth of flavour keeps it in check. Grainy, dark and firm on a spicy finish of good length. It’s a wine that offers no shortage of charisma and personality, and gee, I like it quite a lot. - The Wine Front
