Japanese winemaker Seiichi Sait moved to France in 2006, he then spent over a decade learning from others in Burgundy before buying a tiny 1.3ha of organic vineyard. Petit Roy wines communicate Seiichi's meticulous and tidy approach with his passion for wine. He has an allergy to copper-sulphate and avoids it at all costs, using biodynamic preparations in the vineyards like teas and essential oils instead.
Les Crays is 100% pinot noir from 25 year old vines grown on clay and limestone. 100% whole bunch. Pungent notes of plums and warm earth, with roses in the background. Plum cake and a little ozone. Light and linear, but with darker fruit profile hinting at blackberries and black plums. Seems more serious and sturdy, but also light at the same time thanks to gentle extraction.
