Matunei Grignolino d’Asti Gusán 2021

Smells like a nicely grilled pork and fennel sausage, also strawberry and redcurrant, with some rosehip perfume. It’s medium-bodied, red fruits along with some char and savoury herbs, juicy orange and cranberry acidity, a soft puff of powdery tannin, with a meaty and juicy, gently amaro/orange peel finish of good length. It’s a quirky wine, and quite different, but gee it offers quite some character and drinks very well. Also, there’s something of a volcanic/pumice stone thing here.
