Unkel La De Da Light Red 2022

Rob Burley caught the winemaking bug in Australia, doing vintages around the traps, before the lure of returning home to NZ became too strong. He and his wife Kate now call the wine region of Nelson home, and farm a vineyard there to continue the good work of the Unkel wine label. 

The wine does what the label says and delivers a light red, or is it a heavy rosé, nevertheless this thing is frisky and bright, floral and pretty with a red berry fruitiness married to alpine herbs, dusty spice and some lychee, floral and tropical fruit notes. Quixotic, left of centre in its way, but vivacious in its drinkability and generally just darn refreshing.
