Coming in hot with her first solo vintage, P&V alumni, wine enthusiast (yes she was the one who would keep talking to you about wine as you were leaving the shop) and now WINE MAKER, the one and only Mem Hemmings has gone and made the drink of summer and we could not be happier it has landed.
Upliftingly refreshing with deep red fruits and a delightful herbaceous zip this rosé come in in handy 250ml sized cans. One large glass or two more humble portions if you are a good sharer. Cans are such lightweight packaging so you can take it to the park, bush walking, houseparties, the cinema oh so much more easily. Infinitely recyclable we think that wine in a can has a great place in our future and yours!
My first fruit of vintage '22 makes up 1/3 of this rosé. Organic, Hunter Valley, Syrah. Hand picked across two dates. The first half was left carbonic for 6 days when we picked the second half of this lot we put both components into the press. Pushed to stainless for the majority of ferment, then finished in old oak puncheons. The cab mac adds lifted aromatics to this wine
The Merlot 1/3 was quite similar. Also coming from the Hunter it was a direct press to temperature controlled stainless for the entire ferment and dropped into old oak after primary had finished. The Merlot fills out the mid palate here.
Lastly the Cabernet Sauvignon came from the Hilltops region and was my last pick of '22 on the last day of March. This fruit is from the Freemans vineyard where you are likely to find a lot of other NSW's natty winemakers harvesting amongst the vines. We borrowed Topher's trailer and hand picked a tonne of Cabernet and drove it back to the winery where we foot trod it and left it for 5 days before basket pressing it directly to puncheon for ferment. Cabernet comes through with its signature dark purple fruitedness and leafy green herbaceous notes. - Mem Hemmings
